The Royal Baby

A huge congratulations to William & Kate, the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge on their first born son, our new Royal Baby, arriving at 4.24pm BST on 22/07/13 and weighing in at 8lb 6oz. The nation was holding its breath to find out if it was going to be a girl or boy and we found out yesterday evening, after months of speculation.

Even though our new heir will never want for anything, we have listed our top 5 newborn essentials which are fit for any young Prince or Princess:

1) Shnuggle - The Modern Moses Basket

We love this modern moses basket for many reasons, not just one. It is bigger than most traditional maize or wicker moses baskets, meaning it is better value for money as your baby will be in it for longer. The base is fully wipeable, with no nasties, and has ventilation holes in the base to encourage good air flow. As all parts of the basket can be washed or wiped it is especially useful in reducing the risk of allergies. And also, the hood stays up!!

2) Peppa Sloppy baby comforter

This Fairtrade toy is perfect for your newborn. Familiar smells, such as Mum, will absorb into the Sloppy material so baby will feel comforted when Mum can't hold them. The plain 'face' is also great to stimulate baby's imagination and can laugh, cry, smile or pull any other face your baby wants.

3) Skip*Hop Treetop Friends Activity Gym

We think this gym is special because of its attention to detail, high quality fabrics & finishes, and includes a whopping 17 developmental activities. it is also suitable from birth, and the mat is beautifully padded making it comfortable for baby to lie on and play on.

4) Cocooi newborn sleep bag

A small sleeping bag which is suitable from birth until approximately 3 months, this little bag will keep your baby cosy or cool. Made from superfine merino wool, the Cocooi is suitable to use all through the year, whatever the season, and is 100% natural which is perfect against delicate skin. It also includes a vent both on the front and the back of the bag so you can easily strap your baby into his or her car seat or pram without causing a disturbance ro having to remove the bag.

5) Motorola MBP26 Digital Video Monitor

Motorola have become the market leaders in the baby monitor market and have been voted top in the last 2 years. This monitor features secure DECT technology (so no-one can interfere with your signal), it has 2 way communication so you can talk to your baby, and it has both audio and video features so you can hear and see your baby easily, even at night with its infra-red technology. Wow, definitely one for the Dads!
